FORMATTING HTML DOCUMENTS WITH CASCADING STYLE SHEETS

CONCEPTS

The chaotic proliferation of presentational HTML elements and attributes can make WWW authoring an exercise in frustration. Style sheets simplify presentation by allowing authors to consistently apply various stylistic properties—such as font, size, color, margins, background, etc.—to any HTML element. Stylistic HTML elements and attributes can then be discarded and authors can use HTML as originally intended: as a document linking and structuring language. A single style sheet can be applied to any number of documents, greatly simplifying design changes.

ELEMENTS

Elements are the building blocks of an HTML document, and include the document body, headings (h1, h2, etc.), paragraphs (p), images, etc. Some elements have blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Containing elements are deliminated by a pair of tags. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

PROPERTIES

Stylistic properties determine the look and feel of a document blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
